Why Your Toyota Needs Synthetic Oil

We know that buying a new car can be a big investment. It can be tempting to try and save money wherever you can once you’ve driven your new set of wheels off the lot - after all, your brand-new ride should be running smoothly all on its own, right? Although Toyota vehicles are most certainly manufactured to maintain quality and durability over time, they still require regular maintenance and TLC in order to keep those parts in tip-top shape. That’s why our service technicians at Whitehorse Toyota recommend using synthetic oil versus regular oil when it comes to servicing your car, SUV, truck or crossover. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of synthetic oil for Toyota vehicles!

Not All Oil is Created Equally

There are two main types of oil: synthetic engine oil and natural (sometimes called “conventional”) engine oil. All crude oil is sourced from underground, where it then undergoes various refinement processes to remove contaminants. Conventional engine oil is simply refined crude oil that can be used in vehicles during oil changes. Synthetic oil uses the same refined crude oil as a base, but then receives additional man-made additives and compounds in a controlled environment. Synthetic oil has many environmental and performance benefits, including:

  • Produces fewer emissions

  • Improved engine performance and fuel economy

  • Helps clear the engine of deposits and sludge

  • Better performance in sub-zero temperatures (Welcome to Whitehorse!)

  • Increased intervals between oil changes

  • General improvements to engine health

Why You Should Trust a Toyota-Certified Service Technician With Your Oil Changes and Maintenance

Since synthetic oil is partially man-made, scientists are able to add compounds to the oil that are compatible with specific types of engines - so a Toyota-friendly synthetic oil can improve the performance and longevity of your particular model’s engine. That’s why our team recommends visiting our Whitehorse Toyota Service Centre, where our highly-trained technicians can ensure that your vehicle is getting serviced with the best oil and oil parts possible.

There are some Toyota vehicles with more complicated engines that truly require synthetic oil in order to perform their best. Our team recommends any Toyotas with a hybrid engine, such as Camry Hybrid, Corolla Hybrid, Prius Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid be serviced using only Toyota-specific synthetic oil. Toyota’s big trucks, like Tacoma and Tundra, will also greatly benefit from being serviced with synthetic oil, as the improved engine efficiency will help these trucks continue to tow and haul heavy loads for years to come.

Synthetic oil does cost more than conventional oil, particularly in trucks and SUVs that require greater quantities of oil, but you can go much longer between oil changes when you use synthetic oil - sometimes up to triple the amount of kilometres. Not to mention that with improved fuel economy and happier engine parts, paying a little extra for synthetic oil during regular maintenance can help you save big on fuel and repairs down the road.
